Cara Glass & Recycling Our uPVC

Cara Glass & Recycling Our uPVC

We Recycle uPVC Windows!

Cara Glass are proud to have used Eurocell Recycle as their preferred recycling partner throughout 2020. In total, we recycled 9.32 tonnes of uPVC in 2020. To put that in perspective, that’s a third of the weight of a stone in Stone Henge!

At Cara Glass, we strive to be as eco-friendly as possible across our full range of windows. Eurocell Recycle are the UK’s leading specialists in uPVC recycling, collection and extrusion. They have a closed-loop recycling system, which takes old uPVC systems and recycles them into brand new plastic products.

This not only stops uPVC windows from being dumped in a landfill, but also creates new, eco-friendly windows. Cara Glass takes great pride in working in a sustainable way, striving to use environmentally friendly techniques and reducing our carbon footprint as much as possible.

In previous years, the home improvement industry has struggled to find ways to be sustainable. By having Eurocell as our recycling partner, Cara Glass are helping reduce the amount of waste created by old windows, doors and other products. We strive to have a little waste as possible end up in a landfill, helping make the world more eco-friendly one step at a time.

How Does Eurocell Recycle uPVC & Create Recycled uPVC Windows?

Eurocell Recycle have created the closed loop post-consumer recycling process, working to find the most sustainable and efficient way to create recycled uPVC windows and uPVC doors.

First, the end of life windows are removed and collected from the property. Eurocell then collects the old uPVC windows and transport them to their recycling plant located in Derbyshire.

Once the old uPVC arrive at the recycling centre, they are then shredded, granulated and micronised. After this, the dismantled parts of the old uPVC profiles go through a process called extrusion.

Extrusion is the process of melting down pieces of material until they turn into liquid form. This liquid is then pushed through a mould, forming the shape of the new, recycled product. The extrusion then cools and solidifies.
After extrusion, the recycled uPVC window sections are then fabricated into a new uPVC window profile by the team at Eurocell. These are then ready to be installed into homes across the country, providing a completely recycled uPVC window.

By using this method, old, outdated windows that would’ve ended up in landfill can now enjoy potentially hundreds of years worth of use. Cara Glass are so pleased to have recycled 9.32 tonnes of waste in 2020 alone with Eurocell, and we hope only to see this increase more and more as time goes on.
